With NIL growing, the idea of the all-around athlete is changing. All eyes are now not only on the athlete’s performance but how they interact with the public, fans, on social media, and in media interviews. The wrong interaction can cost them NIL deals and opportunities in the game at the next level. Media training can help prepare athletes for all facets of their high school and collegiate career.
Our training includes more than just interview skills, we will make sure the athlete understands the dynamics and challenges of the media. We look at mannerisms, dialogue, how to get their story in the media, and awareness of the everyday pitfalls that could cost them in the long run.
•What do I do with My Hands?
• What’s Your Image?
• Too Much Information!
• Clean Up the Play.
• Confident or Cocky?
• It’s Not My Fault!
• You Are Always On.
• The Media Is Your Friend.
• Be Human.
We can teach how to be a media star to help build your brand all day, but let’s face it, you learn a key play by practice. This is why we suggest taking your media training outside the classroom with the double play.
· Mock Interviews: Let’s start by doing an on-the-spot interview on day 1. Athletes never know when they will be interviewed so it’s important to always be ready. After the workshop we can do another on-camera interview. In the coming weeks we will compare the two and give feedback. To make sure the tips are being used, it’s suggested to come back with more mock interviews and feedback till the camera becomes as natural as a game ball.
· You’re Only as Good As Your Team: There are several times where athletes will be interviewed together, it can be for preseason, post-game, or just to get to know the team. How they represent themselves, interact, and represent the team is crucial in this setting. One bad interview can make a win be old news and they take the headline. We will take the team approach to make sure everyone is sharing the praise and getting the team’s message across.
